Thought For The Day- What Do You Own

The earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness, The world and those who dwell therein. Psalms 24:1 NKJV.

According to Google, the definition of ownership is ” the act, state, or right of possessing something.” Ownership is something that most people on earth take pride in. Some people take pride in houses they own and some take pride in the cars they own, while others take pride in businesses they own. Whatever we believe we own no matter how small or great, it gives us a sense of accomplishment and dare I even say joy. What if we have been looking at ownership the wrong way.

The bible tells us in James 1:17, NKJV that every good and perfect gift comes from God above. The above verse in Psalms 24:1 tells us that God owns the earth and everything and everyone in it. A few months back, I had the pleasure of having a conversation with a gentleman who “owned” all the things I mentioned above, houses, cars, and businesses. He was very pleased with what he had accomplished due to the labor, hard work and effort he put into it and I commended him for that. I asked him if he believed that everything, he “owned” belong to God, he paused, then he chuckled and said, “God didn’t have anything to do with it.” We went back and forth for a while and he maintained his previous statement. Before we parted ways, I thanked him for the time he spent talking with me and I left him with this question, “what if God didn’t give you the strength and intuition, would the outcome still be the same?”

There is nothing wrong in working hard and being pleased with your labor, even God in the book of Genesis was pleased with the creation of heaven and earth. However, in everything give glory to God. In my opinion, even though God has given us the power to create wealth, Deuteronomy 8:18, he allows us to manage it because everything belongs to him. This is the same principle he gave Adam in the garden of Eden and it still applies today. Wealth and riches are a gift from God, Ecclesiastes 5:19, NKJV and it should be treated as such, unless it was acquired by ill-gotten ways. We are all managers in our respective places, and just like in any company, if a manager falls short, he can, and will be replaced. The same applies when it comes to God, he has the right to take away wealth and riches from us if we mismanage it. Learn how to effectively manage what God has given you and he will give you more to manage. These are Julien’s thoughts and what’s on his mind.
