Thought For The Day- Why Should I Pray

“Pray without ceasing,” 1 Thessalonians 5:17 NKJV.

Prayer is an important weapon that many of us overlook. Yes, you read that correctly, I called prayer a weapon, Ephesians 6:18, Apostle Paul completes the armor of God by saying “Praying always.” in other words you need to have on your whole armor and then proceed with prayer. Besides prayer being a weapon, it is also the main way we communicate with God through Jesus Christ. Sort of like this day and age, we have different forms of communications but the most effective is still picking up the phone and talking to a real person. Most of us only pray when we need something from God and some of us rarely even pray at all. Both of this ought not to be so.

I have spoken to people in the past who have expressed to me that, they don’t believe prayer works and hence the reason why they don’t pray. From my personal experience, I can tell you that prayer definitely works. Apostle Paul also tells us that praying effectively and fervently works, James 5:16 NKJV. Some people pray once for something and when they don’t see immediate manifestation, they say prayer doesn’t work. Like the example I used earlier, sometimes when you call someone on the phone, you may not get through the first time, you might leave a voicemail and wait for a call back or you can try later. Same thing with prayer, when you don’t see manifestation of your answer, that is a reason to pray even harder. Therefore, Apostle Paul tells us to be fervent which means passionate intensity. I once prayed to God for something and the manifestation came ten years later but I never gave up.

For your prayer to be effective, you must believe that anything you ask in Jesus name, God will bring it to pass, John 14:13 NKJV. Some of us pray in order to believe what we are asking for but, prayers are more effective if you believe first, then pray. That is like asking someone for something you know they don’t have. However, if you believe they have what you are asking for, you may be inclined to be more persistent depending on how important that thing is to you.

Think of prayer like this, the more you pray, the more you are in constant communication with God, that is why the opening verse of this blog states “pray without ceasing.” No meaningful relationship can survive without constant communication because that is exactly what we have with God through Jesus Christ, a relationship. As a disciple of Jesus Christ God is our heavenly father and any loving father loves to hear from his children. When was the last time you spoke to your heavenly father? These are Julien’s thoughts and what’s on his mind.
