“Giving thanks always for all things to God the father in the name of our lord Jesus Christ.” Ephesians 5:20 NKJV
Sometimes in our lives we are so concerned about the things that we don’t have, or the things that we desire to have, that we overlook the things we do have. Sometimes, we set goals for ourselves in life and some of us achieve those goals while others spend a good portion of life trying to achieve those goals. In the process, we forgot to stop and be grateful to God for some of the little things that seem insignificant but speak volume.
I remember as a young boy, I was upset my parents would not buy me a particular pair of sneakers that I wanted, even though the pair I owned at the time were perfectly fine. My parents did not budge, so I tried to sweet talk my grandmother into getting me the sneakers. She smiled and said to me “I was crying because I had no shoes, until I met a man without feet.” As a young boy, I thought about if for a second or two and said, “well, did you ever get a pair of shoes?” My grandmother laughed and said, “in time you will understand what that means.” It wasn’t until I became a young man that I understood what my grandmother was trying to teach me, be grateful to God for what you have, there are others worse off.
I meet people almost every day that take for granted the blessings that God has granted them because they want something better. There is nothing wrong with wanting something better but until you get it, be thankful to God for what he has given you right now. The book of James said all good gifts comes from God, James 1:17, NKJV and remember you did not do anything to deserve these gifts, it’s His grace through Jesus Christ that allows him to bless you with them. Be content with everything that you have right now, if you are faithful and thankful over the little, He will give you much more, Luke 19:17, NKJV.
Tomorrow or any day for that matter is not promised to any one of us. Be thankful to God from the moment you open your eyes in the morning to the moment you go back to sleep in the evening. Thank God for the little things, being able to move, for breakfast, for your clothes, for having a roof over your head. An attitude of gratitude makes you realize things that you didn’t even know you had, and it makes you appreciate each day more. What are you grateful to God for today? These are Julien’s thoughts and what’s on his mind.
