Thought For The Day- What Gift Did You Receive

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.” James 1:17 NKJV.

Have you ever wondered why certain people are so talented and gifted? Have you ever wondered how they discovered their gift? Maybe you have even imagined yourself having that same gift, like being a professional football player or a skilled potter or a musician.  Then after you’re done imagining, you realize that you are none of those people and you feel like you have no talent and nothing to offer the world. Don’t feel strange or embarrassed, you are not alone, in fact, many more people than they would care to admit feel like this almost every day. I am also among one of those people that felt like God skipped me over during the gift giving part of human formation. But be encouraged, I have some exciting news for you.

For most of us, we were told to go to school, get a good education and that would lead to a good paying job and then you stay at that job and retire with a good pension. How is that working out for most of us? It’s alright, I will answer for you, not great. Allow me to paint a slightly different picture, if we were told something different. What if, we were told to go to school and get a good education but simultaneously search within ourselves to find out what we really enjoy doing and could easily spend the whole day doing that thing. Then once we found out what “that thing” is, which is your gift, we were encouraged and even helped to realize the full potential of our gifts. Spoiler alert, some people did exactly that and they are the ones we day dream about.

I know what you are saying, Julien, you said you had exciting news and so far, you have only told us what we already know. Here is the exciting news, you too have a talent, a gift that the world needs. Now before you count yourself out and say, “well Julien, you haven’t met me, I have no talent the world needs.” Like I said earlier, I too have made that same exact statement and here you are today, reading my blog. Now, those of you who know me know that I am neither boastful nor prideful, my boast only is in the Lord for he alone deserves all glory and honor. If it were not for me rededicating my life back to him, I would have never had the urge or the boldness to even write something that would be on the world Wide Web. For that reason, this is not a boast it’s a testimony.

Everything that God created, he gave a gift, he placed that gift inside of the creation, what gift did God place in you? It is never too late to discover your God given gift. If you don’t know how to go about finding out what your gift is, a good way to start is to pray and ask God sincerely and be ready to receive an answer. A big give away is that your gift is not something you’ve studied or learned in school or at your job, it’s something  that comes naturally to you and something you enjoy doing. Once you discover this gift, do not let anyone dissuade you from it because in your gift (your natural gift not spiritual gift) is also where your wealth lies. Don’t let your gift die with you without sharing it with the world. These are Julien’s thoughts and what’s on his mind.
