Thought For The Day- Pride A Deadly Killer

Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall. Proverbs 16:18 NKJV

One of Google’s definition of pride is “A feeling or deep pleasure or satisfaction derived from one’s own achievements, the achievements of those with whom one is closely associated, or from qualities or possession that are widely admired.” Most people will say that there is nothing wrong with pride and some might argue that it is a good thing to have. Allow me to shed some light on why pride is something you should get rid of as quickly as you can.

In Proverbs 6:16-19, Solomon a man whom has both been poor and extremely rich and wealthy in all things including wisdom tells us six things that the Lord hates and seven things that are an abomination to God. The first on that list is “A proud look.” Why does God hate a proud look? Could it be because it gives you a feeling of self-righteousness? Or maybe it reminds God of someone else. Pride goes before destruction, this was evident in the history of Lucifer. He was so prideful that he took two thirds of the angels in heaven and went up against God. This led to his fall and ultimately got him thrown out of heaven and he became known as Satan or the Devil. Since then he has put this same emotion in the hearts of men and some of us wear it as a badge of honor (shameful). The book of Daniel tells us that God is able to put down anyone who walks in pride, Daniel 4:37. God demonstrated this with Lucifer.

Pride puffs you up and makes you believe that everything you achieve was done by you and you alone. You may have even heard people make statements like” I worked hard for this, and am proud of it,” maybe you have even made this statement personally. The book of James says that “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above and comes from God, James 1:17. So instead of giving yourself all the credit why not thank God for giving you the ability and then thank him again for the gifts that accompanied the abilities. Jesus said “And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted” Matthew 23:12. Get rid of pride and let your boast only be in the Lord God Almighty, creator of heaven and earth and the God of our lord and savior Jesus Christ. These are Julien’s thoughts and what’s on his mind.
